I’m going to discontinue this blog in about 15 days because it isn’t useful. I post information and archives about the radio program on my other blog (rickpdx.wordpress.com). So, if anyone thinks I should keep it up, let me know soon. No use wasting internet space.

We’re running a week late again this month due to my son’s birthday (this time) last weekend. KBOO 90.7 FM or on the web at kboo.fm (note the repetition)
With any luck at all next month’s show will be May 8th- not following the full moon, but within 24 hours of it (the moon is actually full on the 9th, which is technically when the show happens- don’t worry about it).

Friday show
Last Friday night- or Saturday morning, depending on how uptight you want to be, we had a good show. The archive is here: http://rickpdx.wordpress.com/mad-liberation-by-moonlight-archives/

The show was recorded by Rich- check out his blog at http://uglyradio.wordpress.com/

We had several callers, one who called from the beach at Lincoln City, played us some wave action/ surf sounds. Listen up.
Roxie was there. Daniel was out- his daughter Maya stood in at the controls. When we were about 10 minutes over, everyone started calling. Typical.
BTW: check out http://uglyradio.wordpress.com/
Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

David Oaks interviews Ray Sandford and others
Regarding the international campaign to
stop involuntary ECT being used on
Ray Sandford-
NPR has an interview touching on the salient points (click here):
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=98273451
Yes: David Oaks, psychiatrists say they have considered every alternative, when they only consider options n their discipline – drugs, drugs, shock. Medical model limits.
Psychiatry is one workplace that does not refer people out when their discipline is not working. Even cancer doctors do that, they reluctantly but admirably, list alternatives.
Psychiatrists are put in the position of controlling behavior for society, and many have not learned the lessons of the Horse Whisperer. Why do white take with a gun, what they could have been given through love? Asks the Native American philosopher.
Learning to live in a complex, changing and fragmented world, is a complex task, impeded without intention, by divided leaders in families as well as society. Helping people navigate, grow, make friends and contributions in their specific communities, rather helping than from offices, works, over time. Help with persistence with peer and social supports. Drugs are the assumption that trauma is limitless. They add their own unpredictability to behavior, later seen as signs of symptoms. Trauma is temporary, as a thunderstorm. Learning to help people through trauma, in their settings, guide with firm, prompt and gentle ways.
